Background

Professor Dato’ Sri Daing Nasir Ibrahim, PhD, BBA, MBA, CA (M), FCPA (Australia), P.Tech. (Malaysia) has been the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), one of Malaysia’s Public Universities which is affiliated to Malaysian Technical Universities Network (MTUN) since May 2008. He is also the current Chairman of Malaysian Public Universities’ Vice Chancellors and Rectors Council.

Leading by Example

Prior to joining UMP, Professor Dato’ Sri Ts. Dr. Daing Nasir was an academic staff at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) since 1983. A prolific educator and academic leader, he was entrusted with the Deanship of USM’s School of Management in 1997 and subsequently promoted to full Professorship in 2000. Between 2007 and 2008, he served as the Director of USM’s Advanced Management Centre before taking up his present responsibility at UMP.  The excellence of his academic talent and organizational leadership was widely acknowledged, both locally and internationally. The Academy for Global Business Advancement (AGBA) which is based in the United States of America acknowledged Professor Dato’ Sri Ts. Dr. Daing Nasir with the Dean-of-theYear Award during its Inaugural World Congress in 2004 and the 2006 AGBA Distinguished Dean Award during its Third World Congress. His vast knowledge and professional experience in the fields of management accounting and management strategy have brought him remarkable achievements in the practice, which include being a Council Member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), as well as serving on its Accreditation Committee and Disciplinary Appeal Committee. In 2017, the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) officially recognized him as a Professional Technologist (P.Tech.) by virtue of the Technologists and Technicians Act 2015 [Act 768]. His distinguished service and outstanding contribution to Malaysian higher education sector also received gracious acknowledgement from His Royal Highness the Sultan of Pahang, the Ruler of the state where he currently resides and serves who conferred him with the Knight Companion of The Esteemed Order of the Crown of Pahang (D.I.M.P.) in 2003 and Knight Companion of The Most Illustrious Order of Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang (D.S.A.P.) in 2013.

Transformation towards Excellence

Committed to the culture of professional and organizational excellence, Professor Dato’ Sri Ts. Dr. Daing Nasir Ibrahim embarked on a massive administrative and management transformation agenda after being mandated as UMP’s ViceChancellor, steering the University’s operational ecosystem according to his unique management style which is values-based, strategy-focused and performance-driven. With this approach and principles, he successfully led UMP through the strategic phases for 2008-2010 and 2011-2015, and currently focusing on the implementation of UMP Strategic Plan 2016-2020. Under his leadership, UMP emerged as the top among 15 Asian universities with high publication growth rate in Engineering according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2013, and was ranked world’s 58th by UI-GreenMetric World University Ranking in 2016.  UMP is also ranked one of the top 2.4% universities in Asia by QS Asia University Rankings 2018, excellently rated with Tier-5 Status in the Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education (SETARA) and acknowledged with 5-Star rating in MyMohes data transmission by the Ministry of Higher Education in 2017.
