Professor Abdulfattah Al Mashat
Professor Abdulfattah bin Suleiman Al Mashat is the rector of the newly established Jeddah University, Saudi Arabia, since 23 June 2016. He was previously at King Abdulaziz University, holding the positions of vice rector for development (2013–2016). Prior to that, he spent a year as the dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Technology. During his tenure as college dean he led the successful ABET accreditation of the faculty’s three programmes, and also strengthened international collaboration by co-sponsoring several international scientific meetings.
Prior to his deanship position he spent several years as the dean of admissions at KAU. He was instrumental in the development and implementation of a sophisticated electronic system called “On Demand University Service” (ODUS Plus), which allows all students to register, drop or add courses, and monitor their progress, among other possibilities.
In his capacity as the vice president for development at KAU he managed all university activities that dealt with planning, implementing, assessment and continuous improvement processes. His responsibilities also included managing several university service units such as the strategic plan, the library affairs, the community services and continuing education, the center for teaching and learning development and the center for quality.
Prof Mashat’s achievements for KAU were outstanding. Under his leadership KAU was awarded various national and international accreditations, and made noticeable advances in international rankings year after year.
Professor Mashat serves on the governing boards of several Saudi universities and also on the advisory boards of several national and international ranking systems. Among his current interests is developing and implementing key performance indicators for a multitude of university activities.
Professor Mashat is a Saudi national, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from King Abdulaziz University in 1989. He received his MS and PhD from the University of Leads, United Kingdom, in 1999, in the field of computer science.
