With multiple top-place finishes in regional competitions, April was an award-winning month for electrical engineering students at Ajman University (AU).

During the Second Annual GCC Students and Young Professionals Congress (SYP Congress) in Kuwait, April 19-20, 2019, Ajman University was named “Top Student Branch” of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)in the GCC. More than 50 student branches participated in the SYP Congress – held annually to enhance and foster engineering passion and capabilities through technical and social activities. AU’s Branch won for its bold commitment to the IEEE’s mission of “inspiring, encouraging, engaging, and endorsing” students. This is the second time that AU has been recognized as the top IEEE student branch.

During the Eleventh Annual Conference on Undergraduate Research on Applied Computing, April 17-18, 2019, AU student teams swept the top spots in three separate categories – Live Demo Award, Poster Award, and People’s Choice Poster Award. AU students also earned first place, as well as third place, in the 24-hour hackathon competition held in conjunction with the conference at Zayed University. The entire two-day event provides a forum for students to present their work and interact with other young researchers, faculty, and industrial leaders from the UAE, other Gulf countries, and the rest of the Arab world.

“Our students continue to show a great passion for innovation,” commented AU Chancellor Karim Seghir. “Equally important is their willingness to invest a great amount of time and effort into every aspect of these events and competitions. They certainly have award-winning ideas, but they also show an unwavering commitment to success.”

Founded in 1988 as the first private institution of higher education in the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf region, AU is now being recognized as an emerging leader on the global academic map.
