Iraq – Although the Three Minutes Thesis (3MT®) has been in academia for a while, it is the first time that the competition has been staged for Iraqi universities. University of Kufa, after being officially authorised by the University of Queensland, took the challenge of implementing this new idea in the Iraqi as well as Arabic context, and ran the event successfully last June.
Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) celebrates the exciting research conducted by PhD students. Developed by The University of Queensland (UQ), the exercise cultivates students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills. The competition supports their capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes, in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.
The 3MT competition in Iraq exceeded all expectations, Kufa University officials say, not only for participation and the great breadth of ideas, but also for the goodwill and sincerity of everyone’s contributions.
