Mahasarakham University Researchers Develop a Natural Skincare Product “MK Serum”

Mahasarakham University has launched “MK serum,” a skincare product extracted from Yam Bean and infused with triple Hyaluronic acid. The serum can reduce wrinkles, boost moisture, and helps to combat dullness in the skin.

This new product was developed from research on Yam Bean, the local fruit of Borabue District, Mahasarakham Province. The research was initiated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Methin Phadungkit, the lecturer of Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahasarakham University.

Yam Bean (Scientific name: Pachyrhizus erosus) is used for the UV protection and skin brightening by the local Indonesian people. It can also boost the immune system, prevent osteoporosis, and inhibit tyrosinase. It is rich in antioxidant properties, polysaccharide, and phenolic compounds, which help slow down cell deterioration and therefore, maintain youthful and glowing skin. Triple Hyaluronic acid is added in the serum extracted from Yam Bean to trap moisture under the skin and keep skin firm for a long time.

The study has been recently further developed by Dr. Suphakanya Tantrabundit, Head of the Research Department, PharmCare Pharmaceutical from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahasarakham University. The “MK Serum” is currently sold by PharmCare Pharmaceutical. “MK” refers to the Thai name of Yam Bean “Mankaew,” the origin province of Yam Bean “Mahasarakham,” and the initiator of this serum “Methin Phadungkit”

During the press conference on July 2, 2020, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prayook Srivilai, the President of Mahasarakham University, said that PharmCare Pharmaceutical by the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahasarakham University is a pharmaceutical company established with purposes to distribute the quality herbal medicines and natural products to the public. This is also to support local agriculturists to earn more income.
