President University students participated in the commemoration of World Tourism Day (WTD) 2019 at National Monument (Monas) on 4 October 2019. The event that was organized by Ikatan Cendikiawan Pariwisata Indonesia (ICPI) and Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Indonesia Chapter held to raise people’s awareness of the impact of tourism to culture, social, economy, politic, and environment.
With the theme “Tourism and Jobs: A Better Future for All”, this event emphasized that tourism is an industry that is aimed at everyone and everywhere. Tourism also accommodates the workforce with better prospects for the future.
Furthermore, each party engaged in the tourism sector must continue to examine the contribution of the tourism industry to Indonesia’s development and prevent the negative impact of the tourism industry on cultural, social, economic, political and environmental values. According to Vice Chairperson & Secretary General PATA Indonesia Chapter Ningsih A. Chandra, the role of the young generation, especially university students, is very important in supporting Indonesia’s development through the tourism industry. “Students are future leaders, the next generation who will continue to develop Indonesia’s tourism so that Indonesian tourism can compete with other countries in the world,” she explained.
