Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences (FSKM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) successfully celebrated the International Day of Mathematics (IDM) by organizing ‘UiTM Mathematical Olympiad’ (UiTMMO-IDM2020) on 14th March 2020. March 14 has been proclaimed as the International Day of Mathematics (IDM) by United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) during its recent 40th session of General Conference on 26th November 2019.

The UiTMMO-IDM2020 is a mathematical competition that challenges the students’ analytical minds in solving mathematical related problems using algebra, logic, geometry, and series. The participants of the competition were not limited to FSKM students only, but also from other faculties in UiTM such as Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering Faculty of Communication and Media Studies. About 200 students participated in the competition where they were encouraged to solve analytical problems by utilizing their mathematical skills and further develop their higher-order thinking skills such as critical thinking.

In conjunction with the IDM celebration, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UiTM (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Ts. Dr. Hj. Mohamad Kamal Hj. Harun expressed that “he is happy for FSKM, UiTM as it has successfully made its presence felt and made UiTM visible globally through the worldwide celebration of Pi day by organizing UiTMMO-IDM2020”. He also thanked the International Mathematical Union (IMU) for its initiative in getting approval for the proclamation of 14th March (Pi Day) as the International Day of Mathematics (IDM).  He also sent Pi day wishes to UiTM and world mathematical communities by highlighting the IDM theme for 2020, “Mathematics is Everywhere”.
