UiTM’s Electrical Engineers’ Novel Nickel Oxide Nanocarnation Bags Gold and International Award of Merit at MTE 2020

Universiti Teknologi MARA, (UiTM) Malaysia’s electrical engineering lecturers emerged as gold medalists at the recent Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2020. Their project entitled “Humidity Sensor based on Novel Nickel Oxide Nanocarnation-like Structure Synthesized via Low-Temperature Immersion Approach” led by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohamad Hafiz Mamat also won the International Award of Merit at The Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2020.

The invention presented the fabrication of a humidity sensor based on nickel oxide nanostructures on a cheap glass or a flexible substrate. The fabricated sensor produces superior sensing sensitivity to humidity or water molecules. The sensor was fabricated at low temperatures using the solution immersion method.

The MTE which is organized annually since 2001 has become one of the most recognized international invention exhibitions currently. This year, the MTE was organized by PROTEMP Group, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTEM), and SIRIM Tech Venture Sdn. Bhd. SIRIM Tech Venture Sdn Bhd. is a subsidiary company under SIRIM Berhad, which provides commercialization services for innovations generated from research and development (R&D) activities in Malaysia. There were more than 500 local and international inventions exhibited during the 3-day exhibition which was held from February 20th to February 22nd 2020.
